Build your low-carbon lifestyle

Buildings generate nearly 40% of annual global CO2 emissions, so the energy saved in your home can have a major impact on your personal carbon footprint.

TS4 homes are climate responsive, meaning they use passive design to limit the need for artificial heating, cooling and lighting. Combined with solar panels and energy efficient appliances, a TS4 home allows you to have hardly any daily energy usage while saving hundreds on energy bills every quarter.

What’s possible?

A climate responsive home provides you with…

Very low energy bills

You could save up to $300 a quarter, or some of our clients go off-grid altogether.

Year-round comfort

TS4 homes are cosy in winter and cool in summer without the need for air conditioning or heating.

Sustainable living

A TS4 climate responsive home significantly reduces your family’s carbon footprint.

How we build sustainable homes

TS4 homes are carefully designed and built to ensure they are extremely low on energy usage and high on comfort, all year round. We do this in two ways:

Passive design

TS4 homes are designed to need very little energy to begin with. Some of the ways we achieve this include:

  • Orientation (where possible)
  • Use of winter sun
  • Natural ventilation
  • Natural light
  • Our exclusive airtight wall construction
  • Insulation and window glazing

Energy efficiency

We further reduce your energy use through efficient lighting, appliances and showerheads, as well as heat pumps for your hot water. Most energy that is consumed is generated by solar panels on the roof, with the ability to export a lot of energy back to the grid over the summer months.

How green is a TS4 home?

The energy efficiency in Australian homes is measured through NatHERS, which provides a star rating out of 10. The higher the rating, the less energy needed to heat and cool the home to keep it comfortable.

We like to explain the ratings in cups of tea boiled: to live comfortably in your home, the energy used would be equivalent to boiling how many cups of tea?

The minimum standard for new home builds is 6 stars.

However, many homes that are designed to 6 stars may only end up being built to 3 or 4 stars.

A TS4 designed and built home is between 8 to 10 stars, the equivalent energy usage to boiling just 20 cups of tea each day.

Our delighted clients

Our energy bills have gone from $3300 to $100 per year

After paying a fortune to live comfortably in our previous home, we wanted a home that would keep us warm in winter and cool in summer with minimal impact on the environment or our wallets.

Our TS4 home has proven far more comfortable, and so energy efficient that over the course of a year we export more energy than we consume. Architecturally, the house is perfect. It’s light, welcoming, and makes us feel good just being in there.

Our new layout came out perfectly

We wanted to turn our 1940s house into a home customised for our family’s lifestyle; one that used minimal energy to give us year-round comfort.

Despite our block not being suited to the layout that we wanted, TS4 used their talents to make it work, all while coming up with clever ways to help us save money in the process.

Our new and improved home not only looks great – it’s perfect for our lifestyle and everyone who visits is impressed by the functionality. Paul was honest from the start and taught us a lot along the way, so we would happily work with TS4 again.

Our stunning off-grid home

When we were looking to build a home off the grid, we knew we needed a designer who was highly experienced in sustainable homes and cared enough to make sure the final result was exactly what we wanted. We chose TS4 because we were impressed with their passion, knowledge and honesty from the start.

Paul and Alan took the time to understand us and what we wanted, before shaping our ideas into something that was both stunning and highly functional

We are so pleased with the end result that enables us to live off the grid in a beautiful, eye-catching home.
